Living Dolls (1980, USA) Review

Have you ever looked at a mannequin and swear you seen it move or talk? Variable in size, shape and detail, these human-like but hallow creations have a definite mystique. Filmmakers have included them continually in horror, relying on their presence to create a deep and unnerving effect…

“Oh, Melvin… What are we going to do with you?”

Blue Finch Film Releasing Presents Twisted Horror RAVERS on Digital Download 16 March

Party’s like there’s no tomorrow with Ravers, the blissfully violent and drug-addled horror set in the shady underground of illegal raves! A group of clubbers descend on an abandoned warehouse for a night of twisted techno and hedonistic drug-taking, but the illegal rave takes a blood-stained turn for the worse when the whacked-out partygoers discover a case of energy drink ‘Renergize’. Little do they know, the experimental drink caused a factory worker to butcher his colleagues months earlier and soon the party descends into violent carnage.

“If you’re alive in the morning then you weren’t actually there…”

Women of Mafia 2 (aka Mafia Women 2) (2019, Poland) Review

Women of Mafia 2 (aka Mafia Women 2) (2019, Poland) Review

Fans of writer-director Patryk Vega’s Mafia Women, rejoice! There’s a sequel to the film I called “unbelievably bad” in this very space, and it’s titled, appropriately, Women of Mafia 2 (or Mafia Women 2, depending on your Polish-to-English translation). You’ll be pleased to know that Women of Mafia 2 has quite a lot in common with the first film, including graphic violence, frontal nudity, and a script so nonsensical that the writing must have been outsourced to the proverbial primate with a typewriter, minus the infinite timeline.

“Starting today we have sex with whoever we want!”

Exit (2020, UK) Review

Exit (2020, UK) Review

The political landscape has evolved or, perhaps that should be mutated into a picture so grotesque that, ten years ago horror fans wouldn’t have been able to conjure up our present reality from even the darkest corners of their imagination. One of horror’s most powerful and moving attributes is that it is able to reflect what is occurring within society at any given moment. Along with a shift towards nationalism in the recent years, the notion of what scares us at the movies has gravitated away from slasher villains and horrifying monsters to a deep rooted fear of people…

“Leaving… It’s harder than you think.”

GIRL ON THE THIRD FLOOR, RUNAWAY, SPACEHUNTER: ADVENTURES IN THE FORBIDDEN ZONE & THE LORDS OF FLATBRUSH Available March 2020 from 101 Films

March is a busy month for releases at 101 Films, with a Blu-ray release for a recent horror that was a big hit on the 2019 festival circuit, blu-ray debuts for a pair of under-seen early ’80s sci-fi movies with strong pedigree, and the early ’70s coming-of-age drama that gave Sylvester Stallone his break.

“Home is where Hell is.”
