Ms. 45: Angel of Vengeance @ Rio

Ms. 45: Angel of Vengeance at the Rio CinemaWhat happens when you stick Charles Bronson’s classic Death Wish, Swedish Arthouse/exploitation monster Thriller: A Cruel Picture (aka They Call Her One Eye) and Abel Ferrara in a blender? You end up with one of the finest revenge/vigilante films of all time.

Ferrara uses his familiar home ground of NYC in the beginning of the 80s to tell us the tale of Thana, a striking mute woman who is subjected to the nastiest that a nasty l…echerous NYC has to offer. We follow her on her way as she loses grip with reality, blurring the lines between avenger and homicidal manic.

Starring the stunning Zoë Tamerlis/Lund who went on to write Ferrara’s equally gritty Bad Lieutenant before sadly, succumbing to her heroine addiction (and I don’t mean running around in tights saving people), and featuring a NYC backdrop that would scare even The Warriors.

A true 42nd Street Grindhouse classic hits the Rio Cinema for one night only.

Graham Murphy of Flashback Records will be spinning the some filthy tunes and as usual, the bar will remain open throughout the film and after. All for a measly £7.50.

The Rio Cinema is stupid easy to get to and from- Buses, 38, 56, 67, 76, 243, 242, 149, plus East London Line to Dalston Junction and the Overground to Dalston Kingsland all drop you off at the Rio’s doorstep and plenty of night buses back.
